Splash Into Summer with Your Family

Summer has really just begun. Little league is over, vacation is still weeks away, and the kids are bored. The heat is becoming oppressive; and inside, boredom leads to irritability, whining, and fighting. We don’t always have time to prepare and supervise elaborate projects. So keep these quick ideas handy and have a little fun on a boring summer afternoon.

Make homemade ice cream: This is amazingly simple for such a special treat. You can get a freezer for about $20. Easy recipe that is low-fat and requires very little preparation time. Pick up a bag of ice, rock salt, a gallon of low-fat milk, and a can of non-fat Eagle Brand milk. Let your child mix the Eagle Brand milk, 1 1/2 cups of sugar, 1/8 tsp. salt and a Tbsp. of vanilla extract with about 2 cups of milk. Stir until the sugar has dissolved, then pour into the freezer. Add more milk to the fill line, load it up with ice and rock salt as directed and let it run for about 40 minutes. Kids can prepare the toppings that they like.

     Summer Fun

Watermelon and Sprinklers:

Watermelons are somewhat sticky and messy in the house. Instead, just cut a whole watermelon into enough pieces for your kids and their friends, then send them outside and turn on the sprinklers.

TV/ Web Project:
Find an educational but interesting TV program for the family to watch together, then research the topic on the web. You’ll find some great ideas for this project at Family TV web sites.

Think “Fort”:
You know how much you loved it when you were a kid. You may have used sheets, blankets, or comforters, over a table and chairs to make a fort. Or maybe you used a box from a large appliance. Go with your kids to furniture stores looking for large boxes, you may be surprised at what you find. Then in the fort you may want to add a couple of games, books, a camping lamp (that will not catch fire) and, of course, some snacks. If the kids are older, try going to a lumber company to get some scraps to build a tree house (this will keep them occupied and excited for a good amount of time).

Go to the Library:
Plan on staying awhile.
Your kids can play on the computer, and you might find a new software
program you want for home. Check out a variety of books, audio and video tapes to entertain the children for several days. See what the scheduled events and story times might be and try to fit it into your schedule.

Go To The Mall:
You may want to use this as a reward for special quality time with one child at a time.
Bike Riding:
Plan a family bike ride in a safe environment. You could even get more elaborate and do a scavenger hunt on the bikes in a park.
Balloon Stomp:
Supplies needed: Balloons, and string—Let the kids blow up their own balloons and tie one to their ankle with string. At the go signal, everyone runs around trying to stomp on and bust each others balloons. The last person with an intact balloon wins.
Jump Rope Relays, Hot potato, Hula Hoop Contest, Outdoor scavenger hunt, Water Balloon Toss, Freeze Dance, and Bingo.
Remember most of all to have fun as a family. Make positive memories that will last a lifetime.

La Cosecha is our annual Back-to-School Outreach. The ministry was birthed through Elizabeth Giachetti and targeted migrant workers in our area. As the ministry has grown, La Cosecha has expanded to help all those in our area who are in need. Held every year on the first Saturday of August, the entire church campus is transformed into an outreach center. There are games and activities for the children and youth, haircuts, manicures, free food and drinks, high energy services where everyone in attendance hears the Gospel message of Jesus Christ, and of course, the school supplies. All this is provided at no charge to our guests.

This year we will be distributing backpacks to 500 students and are excited to show and share the love of Christ. If you have a talent that you would like to use for the Lord’s purpose we need you to make this outreach a
success. We need hair stylists, manicurists, servers, and those would love to share the Gospel, security, and to share the love of Christ. We would love to have you as part of our team. Please watch for the sign up forms in the foyer area.
Please keep this outreach in prayer. We are praying for the love of Christ to be shown to all who attend, but most importantly the souls who are open to the truth of God’s Word.

Summer is a time of fun and warm weather. Families frolicking on the beach and picnics in the park are common sights in summertime.

Nosebleeds and sunburns are also common sights. Do you know what to do for these and other summertime injuries?

Plenty of summer injuries have conventional home remedies that are, frankly, wrong. There are some common first aid myths that don’t help you—some may even hurt you.

Scraping off a Bee Stinger:
By scraping off a bee’s stinger it simply means the stinger just gets more time to pump venom into you. Yank it out, the quicker the better! Check to see if person is allergic to the sting. They may be carrying an EpiPen. If so, help the victim use the device as directed. If they are supposed to carry one but don't have it, call 911 immediately!

Tilting Your Head Back with a Nosebleed:
Nosebleeds are more common in the summer heat and dry air. The truth is, leaning back just makes you swallow blood. Yuck! This can cause you to choke! Lean forward pinching the nose just below the bony bridge. Place ice pack on the bridge of nose. If the bleed doesn't stop after 3rd try it’s time to see the doctor. If the victim feels dizzy or weak it is time to see a doctor.

Putting Butter on a Burn:
Only if the burn was your toast! Butter and oils trap heat and make the burn worse. You need something to sooth your tender skin—try aloe! If you see blisters this means the skin is damaged and you need to seek a doctor’s care.

Sucking on a Snake Bite:

Cutting into a snake bite and sucking out the venom only works in the movies. It won’t help the victim and it’s a great way to get infection and venom into both victim and rescuer. Do not elevate; keep bitten area below the heart level. Bring the dead snake with you to the hospital if possible for proper treatment. A dead snake can still bite for one hour after it’s death.

A Perfect Summer

For me, summer is my Christmas. The hot sun in your face, the July fireworks, the constant sand on the house tile and the smell of sun protector. These are some of the things I look forward to in summer.

This summer began with the visit of my childhood best friend from back home. She was to stay with us for a couple of weeks and I could not be more pleased. I wanted to share with her all the wonderful things God had done in me, my husband and my son’s life. You see, after finally graduating from university last summer, it seemed that my life was changing for the better and by this season I would be having the perfect summer. The Lord had opened many doors in my life and spiritually I could not be stronger. However, as soon as my friend came to my home and settled in the guest bedroom, instead of greeting her with hugs and smiles I greeted her with sad tears.

Many might not have understood my tears since I had the most blessed life and a great loving Christian family that loved and served the Lord. However, my life had reached a crossroad and the biggest problem was that at that point I felt I did not know where God was leading me, nor did I feel Him close to me. I had arrived at a point were I felt stale. I feared this summer would be the worst and this dry season would never pass. Yet, His thoughts are not my thoughts and His ways are not my ways (Isa 55:8).

It was when I realized He had the perfect summer for me by using this moment to perfect me in Christ. I will share the three ways He makes our seasons perfect if we allow Him to work in us. Phil. 1:1-6 says, "Paul and Timothy, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons: 2Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, 4 Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, 5 For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; 6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ" (KJV).

We need to understand that during the moments when the fig tree does not bud, and everything has failed (Hab. 3:18) the Lord is always with us. He is always concerned about our happiness and well being and will NEVER leave us. Sometimes we experience these stale and dry seasons, where it seems we have reached a stonewall in our spiritual development.

Now, this could be true for many due to sin or rebellion of some sort But, it also happens to those who simply seek God and desire to experience Him more and more and yet find themselves wondering and waiting. This verse teaches us three ways He lead us to perfection.

1. Once we are accepted in Jesus as our Savior, and we are born again, the work that began in us is a regeneration. You see, God saves us as we are. But once we are saved, God through Christ, begins working in our hearts. He changes us. The act of accepting Jesus and being saved justifies us, which is our right to be declared righteous before God’s eyes. This part is easy since all we have to do is accept Jesus’ sacrifice in order for this to happen. Jesus did all that work for us on the cross.

His thoughts are not my thoughts
and His ways are not my ways

2. The hardest process is of sanctification. This is where the Lord shapes us, our character, personality and personal flaws and our incorrect behaviors to turn them and conform them more and more to the image of the His perfect Son, Jesus. This is the hardest part for many Christians and the point where many stay stuck. But the Lord promises us that He “…WILL perform it…” The Lord is actually performing it in us.

This is when I realized that our trouble, our pains, our dry spells with the Lord is Him trying to mold us, to teach us something about ourselves. At this realization is when I began seeing His powerful hand in my life. I opened my heart to His will and I gave all of myself into His hands. I saw changes for the better in my character, thoughts and in His plans for my life. It felt like a clear summer day, in front of a beautiful blue river or green pasture. And now that my friend is departing I realized that she was also feeling as though she was going through her dry season. We spent this time together praying over each other’s lives and the Lord revealed Himself to us by letting us know that we are the clay in His hands making us into His perfect masterpiece and that everything is in His control for those that place their Faith in Him and only Him.

3. Finally, this process will keep perfecting us until “…the day of Jesus Christ…” In the Bible it states that the return of our Lord Jesus Christ can be
accomplished at any time. This work in us will continue with every single one of us and our Christian brethren at all times until He returns or we pass away and meet Him in heaven. Once Jesus is revealed, we will all be with Him and once we are with Him, as the whole church or individuals, we will no longer need to be perfected since the full manifestation of our salvation will be completed in the resurrection or change of our bodies to an incorruptible condition.

In these three ways the Lord works with us to make us perfect. Phil 6:1 carries with it our past, present and future, because of what Jesus did on the cross. Let us never forget that it is because of what Jesus did that our God will, can and is working on us. Whenever you are dealing with problems, doubt or are unsure what God has for you, let God speak to you through His Holy Spirit by spending time praying, fasting and reading His word.

Give Him praise when things are not going your way. This is what He uses to perfect each of us into Jesus’ image. Remember, as long as each of us lets Him take full control of our circumstances, the Lord will never leave us or forsake us. He is not an unfaithful God and His love toward us will NEVER fail. Allow this summer to be one of renewal and transformation from the Lord in order for every year to be the best summer season ever.

Hurricane Preparedness

When natural disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, high winds, and earthquakes hit, there is little you can do to protect your building. But by planning ahead, your building can be prepared for the worst. Glass can be your worst enemy in severe weather and storms. When unprotected glass breaks, shards can be sent flying causing severe injury to people and major damage to property.

Make sure you protect, board up, cover all windows. Everyone should be prepared to be on their own for at least 72 hours after a hurricane. Fill your vehicle with gas. Obtain a generator and the supplies to secure your home.

Leaving a Faith Legacy

If I was to write down a few words which would convey something personal to pass on to others as my legacy of faith and try to elaborate it, expressing the feelings and sentiments of my heart, I would say that it all comes down to a strong and intimate relationship of trust and surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ. He has been by my side day and night during the happiest moments and the darkest moments of my life. He has always taken care of me and has supplied all my needs by His mercies and glory. I trust him with all my heart.

He promised that He would never leave me nor forsake me and He has stood by my side. Therefore I have this certainty: I know, that I know, that I know, that everything will go well, even when I do not see or understand, because no matter what happens, He’s still in control and by seeking the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, everything else shall be added.

These verses in the Bible is one of my favorite passages because since I’ve been seeking the Kingdom of God and giving Him everything that I have to offer to His Kingdom, He's been my provider, adding in my life everyday, every need in every way that I can possibly imagine. Just to think about all the things that He has done, whether big or small, makes me cry for joy in my heart.

Every time that I ask Him in prayer for something like a healing, a prayer petition, open doors for whatever need is in my life or someone else’s life, peace about something, wisdom to deal with any situation or discernment, I have learned to trust in Him. He's been my Provider.

There is nothing that we cannot ask Him, that He will not give to us, according to His will. Every time He answers even the smaller things. A great legacy is not found in large insurance policies or huge bank accounts; but rather in that which will produce a loving faith and a living hope in our children. The faith that will carry them to their eternal home, when these days that we are currently living in are over.

What legacy am I leaving for my children? I'm trying to show them my faith, my dependence on the Lord. One thing I can say about my mother is that she was a woman of God and every time I think about her, every time I go back in my thoughts, I always see her as a prayer warrior, kneeling down on her knees praying in the middle of the night.

She did not leave any material possessions, but she left me the biggest possession which is a spiritual possession—the Word of God, His promises, His truth, to be a child of God; to persevere in prayer even when things look bad; the hope and the answers to any question is in the book of life, “The Bible.” What we need to leave behind is an example of good parents or grandparents, who lived a righteous life of service and faith in Christ Jesus, a faith which lives in our children and grandchildren. But to leave that kind of legacy we must obey Jesus Christ now and continue to serve and obey Him for the rest of our lives.

In God I trust!
How Do I Build a Legacy?

Building a life—and building a legacy—is about intention. Choosing the materials that will provide a strong foundation. Creating the style that is comfortable and reflective of who we are and what we want. A legacy is something you leave behind that will benefit others—perhaps those yet unborn. This is where the scripture comes, "you drink from wells you didn't dig." Go above and beyond expectations, leave things in better condition then you received them in.

Take the time to share with your children the legacy of faith that has been left to you. Begin to share the legacy of faith that you want them to pass on to their children. What is important to you ? What do you want your children to learn (specifically) about your relationship with Jesus Christ? What has the Lord brought you through? What miracles have happened in your life? What trials have you gone through and how did you respond - and how did the Lord want you to respond?
Is your legacy not what you want it to be? Begin to build a foundation for a great
legacy!

Set the agenda:
- uncover goals based on what you want, not the "coulda, woulda, shoulda, oughta"

- identify current challenges

- create strategies and action plans

- celebrate successes

Let it be grounded and rooted in the love of Christ.
Your legacy can be celebrated for generations to come!
